He was not the theoretical genius that could build on other people's work and further science. Naturally, that requires genius, but a practical engineering genius. He did not further science, here merely proved a concept by putting something together. Again, engineering based on numerous other people's work. ![]() Many people laid out the ground work for radio before Tesla made one. people before him had already figured out how to make an AC generator. He just understood how to make those concepts practical. Others before him had laid the ground work out for him. What Tesla engineered was the AC motor and power transmission. Tesla did not invent AC nor did he further the scientific side of it. We cannot even, with positive assurance, assert that some of them might not be present here, in this our world, in the very midst of us, for their constitution and life-manifestation may be such that we are unable to perceive them. In view of this possibility,-nay, probability, we cannot apodictically deny the existence of organized beings on a planet merely because the conditions on the same are unsuitable for the existence of life as we conceive it. There may be, besides crystals, other such individualized, material systems of beings, perhaps of gaseous constitution, or composed of substance still more tenuous. In a crystal we have the clear evidence of the existence of a formative life-principle, and though we cannot understand the life of a crystal, it is none the less a living being. We can conceive of organized beings living without nourishment, and deriving all the energy they need for the performance of their life functions from the ambient medium. Because Tesla did indeed make these statements back in 1926, the quote is accurately attributed to him. There seems to be no philosophical necessity for food. In concept, Tesla's words were an apt description of the 21st century smartphone: a device that allows the real-time transmission of audio and video between individuals regardless of the distance between them, yet is small enough to comfortably fit in a pocket. "We shall be able to witness and hear events - the inauguration of a President, the playing of a world series game, the havoc of an earthquake or the terror of a battle - just as though we were present. ![]() A man will be able to carry one in his vest pocket. Not only this, but through television and telephony we shall see and hear one another as perfectly as though we were face to face, despite intervening distances of thousands of miles and the instruments through which we shall be able to do his will be amazingly simple compared with our present telephone. ![]() We shall be able to communicate with one another instantly, irrespective of distance. "When wireless is perfectly applied the whole earth will be converted into a huge brain, which in fact it is, all things being particles of a real and rhythmic whole. "Wireless will achieve the closer contact through transmission of intelligence, transport of our bodies and materials and conveyance of energy. The majority of the ills from which humanity suffers are due to the immense extent of the terrestrial globe and the inability of individuals and nations to come into close contact. "From the inception of the wireless system," says, "I saw that this new art of applied electricity would be of greater benefit to the human race than any other scientific discovery, for it virtually eliminates distance. The quote describing the "vest-pocket equipment" follows a few paragraphs below (emphasis ours): And some of these awe-inspiring developments, says Tesla, are not so very far off. Temperate zones will turn frigid or torrid. Earthquakes will become more and more frequent. Enormous power will be transmitted great distances without wires. ![]() Aircraft will travel the skies, unmanned, driven and guided by radio. You will communicate instantly by simple vest-pocket equipment. The article highlighted several predictions of Tesla's, teasing readers with this lede:Ī NEW sex order is coming - with the female as superior. The statement was taken from an interview with Tesla conducted by journalist John B. This quote is correctly attributed to Tesla and to the year 1926.
